Salvador is the capital of Bahia, in the north east of Brazil. It is about 2 hours from Rio and Sao Paulo, but more companies in the UK are now doiung chartered flights and packages to Salvador and the resorts along the Atlantic coast of Bahia. My wife is from Salvador, and we try to visit most years. I insist on visiting the beach as often as possible as they are all great. One of the things that really makes Salvador a great beach holiday destination are all the beach huts, that are called barracas. You just take a seat o nthe beach, and then get waiter service all day, with ice cold beer, local food, fish, sun dried meats, shrimp soups, crabs, and other locally caught produce. The downside of these holidays is the toilet facilities on the beaches are not really on par with European standards, but you can't have everything !
